In her latest book, Girl Power, best-selling author Phyllis Hodges celebrates "World Changers" like Kimberly, who encourage, enlighten, motivate, and empower women. Kimberly’s journey as an adoptee facing discrimination and the complexities of being a multiracial child is featured on page 123.
As a passionate advocate for multicultural education and inclusion, Kimberly collaborates with literary contributors such as international author and publisher Iris M. Williams on the children’s book QUEENIE, which addresses themes of acceptance and self-worth. Following her work on QUEENIE, Kim was commissioned to write the foreword for L.M. Sewell's novella HE IS...MY EVERYTHING (Volume I).
Continuing her freelance work, Kim recently released FRANNIE AND THE BIG BIRTHDAY WISH, which tells the story of soon-to-be twelve-year-old Frannie as she grapples with her desire for straight hair like her friends and models. This beautifully illustrated tale of self-discovery, friendship, and family resonates with readers from all backgrounds, showcasing a successful business owner and single Black father—an often overlooked narrative in diverse literature.
Reflecting on her childhood, Kim shares, "Growing up as a multiracial child, I cannot recall one storybook that featured a character like me. My experience is shared by many, including my own children today. Sadly, there are still few books available for minority children, and even fewer in schools and public libraries where they belong." Kim encourages readers to embrace the 'Buy Two, Give One' initiative when purchasing her books. By donating a copy to a local school or library, you can help ensure immediate access to diverse literature for everyone.
As a respected community leader, Kim tirelessly addresses the achievement gap for culturally and economically diverse students and their families through art, literacy, diversity, and inclusion, championing a brighter future for all.
